ACRH or Residential and Commercial Electricity?
You are looking for a trade-type career. You enjoy working with your hands, and working with electrical equipment.
There are two specific trades that you may consider going into. One is air conditioning, refrigeration, and heating, where you can make your living installing, repairing, and servicing air, refrigeration and heating units. This is a fine trade, one that has a great deal of demand, and one where, if you are skilled enough can make a decent living in.
Another possible occupation for you is residential and commercial electricity, where you will install and repair wiring in commercial or residential structures. It is another specialized, skilled trade in a field with a great deal of demand given current circumstances (which is to say, a great deal of new commercial and residential building).
So which do you choose? Truth be told, the two professions are so similar you may have a difficult time deciding. Each features a great deal of work with electrical systems, installing, maintaining, and repairing complex systems that are a vital part of any home or workplace.
One large difference between the two is the use of refrigerant. Pros in the air conditioning, refrigeration, and heating industry will need to be trained on handling and using those refrigerants, which are potentially hazardous and require special care in order to handle safely.
Of course there are other differences as well, many of which you can probably figure out on your own pretty easily. But the skills you employ in either job are similar, and you use them in similar ways. Everything from technical know-how to problem solving skills are used, and you must be able to adapt to changing environments and situations. If you serve the public, you will need to employ communication skills and deal with the public. If you work in a commercial setting, you still interact with others and will need to be able to do so in a professional manner.
So which job is right for you? That is difficult to say. After all, there is only one you, and no one knows better than you your skills and interests. Finding the correct path for you is something you need to do, making a decision based on your personal strengths, preferences, and abilities.
But aren’t two options like these a good problem to have?
