Keys to the Future: Celebrating Women in Construction Week
By Jade D.
Orleans Technical College recognizes Women in Construction Week. As a trades school, we celebrate the impactful role that women play in the construction industry.
This year’s theme, “Keys to the Future,” resonates with our school’s culture and our dedication to diversifying the construction industry. The many phenomenal women currently training to become construction pros are a testament to that goal. Their desire to gain hands-on skills in the trades will be the kickoff to them shaping the industry’s future.
Students like Tameka chose this field because she wants to build a career rehabbing properties. She discovered that our carpentry class was the perfect place to learn those skills. When asked why she chose Orleans Technical College, she stated, “Not every program builds a tiny home from the ground up, so when I saw that I was sold from the minute I walked in.”
Other students like Aaliyah, wanted to gain skills in each trade, so she enrolled in our Building Maintenance class. Her inspiration stems from watching her father work on construction projects and her mother’s time at OTC. “I just like looking at what my dad does, and I want to do it as a career at some point,” she shared.
Women are truly shaping the future of the construction industry and at Orleans Technical College, we are proud to be their choice in training.
